So many published Bible studies out there prompt their users to engage in an endless game of “guess what the author wants me to answer.” Some of these study guides take the form of a fill-in-the-blank quest that merely requires surface observations from the Bible text. Others may require higher-level thinking as they dabble in interpretation, but they stop short of allowing the Scriptures to penetrate the reader’s heart. Rather, the focus stays solidly in the informational sphere, portraying the Bible as merely a collection of facts to know and memorize. Still other popular guides throw out any guise of pursuing an accurate interpretation of Scripture and just wallow in the hyper-experiential, touchy-feely, people-centric realm, forgetting that the Bible was written to reveal God and lead its readers to worship Him, not ourselves.
Not satisfied with any of these mainstream Christian bookstore options, we wanted to create a study that emphasizes a high view of God and attempts to stay out the Holy Spirit’s way as much as possible. He is our Teacher and promises to personally reveal the Lord to those who pursue Truth in God’s Word. In this sense, the Bible Conversations Series really is more of a “guide” than a publication that tells you what to think.
We like to think of our resources as tools to help you know where and how to dig. Modeled in the inductive study format, these Bible study & discussion guides seek to help you unlock truth from Scriptures and lead you to apply these biblical principles to your own life. After all, we don’t merely read God’s Word to acquire more knowledge; we also want to be changed by what we read and study. The Bible Conversations Series joins you in this supreme spiritual goal.
In future posts, look for content that will feature each step in the inductive study process (i.e., observation, interpretation, and application). In these upcoming articles, we will be providing examples of how each section of the Bible Conversations Series weekly lessons approaches these steps. We look forward to helping you grow in your love of studying the Scriptures as you come to know Him more personally and experience His power to transform your thinking, heart, and life through His living Word.
